The Woods

5:38am

It’s been 3 months since you quit your job.

Your wife and baby are fast asleep.

You’ve been up all night working on music.

You’re behind on the rent.

You’re tired.

You’re side hustle has become your main hustle, except now you’re in another state and you can’t drive, so finding work is a struggle.

You’ve done a couple shoots.

You even went back to Africa and made a video with the friend you premiered the short film with a year before, but you’re barely making any money.

You tried substitute teaching but you couldn’t do it. You figured you’re better off working on your own business than going to another job everyday.

You’ve even built a cool website for yourself with Squarespace. It tells the inspiring story of a young creative engineer trying to make it out of corporate America,

It’s bold, creative, and you. It’s a glimpse of the freedom you’re fighting for.

But inspiration isn’t paying the bills.

Your wife’s doing her best to stay supportive, but you see the stress in her eyes. Your baby’s just five months old, and every day, you feel the weight of everyone’s silent (and not-so-silent) questions:
"What are you doing?"

Above your desk, a piece of paper stares back at you with the goal you’ve written in all caps:
$10K/MO.

It’s just a matter of time, you tell yourself.

The sun is starting to rise, painting the room with a soft, golden light.

What do you do?
